About Lydia Hannah Thomas’s book Urban Gardener
Urban Gardener is a year-long exploration of urban gardening in Ōtautahi Christchurch, following the seasons through people’s gardens across the city. Created through a successful Boosted crowdfunding campaign in 2023, the book brings together photographs and transcribed conversations, capturing each gardener’s relationship with a garden – curiosity, inspiration, and reflection within these unique urban spaces we call gardens.
Working across photography and conversation, Lydia Hannah Thomas has an interest in how people relate to the spaces they move through and respond to. Through Urban Gardener, Lydia explores gardens as places of growth, connection, and storytelling, sharing the journeys of the people who care for them.
Urban Gardener is edited and features photography by Lydia Hannah Thomas, designed by Harriette Herlund, and risograph printed by Aaron Beehre and Jack Freeman (Ilam Press).

About Martino Gamper: Endgrained
Renowned for creating objects that celebrate the joy and beauty of everyday things, Italian designer Martino Gamper reimagines Objectspace as a social space for encounter and interaction through the exhibition Endgrained. This new publication builds on Endgrained and its accompanying research project Wood from the trees (by Gamper, Objectspace and Practise), featuring process and work photography alongside an essay by Kim Paton and an interview between Gamper and Nova Paul. Gamper’s exhibition Endgrained travels to open at Objectspace Ōtautahi on Friday 17 July – save the date!
Endgrained is published by Objectspace, edited by Victoria McAdam, designed by James Goggin and Shan James of Practise, printed by Touchprint | Inc. Productions, and produced with support from the Stout Trust, proudly managed by Perpetual Guardian, and from Lett Thomas.
