You are warmly invited to the opening of The Camellia Society, the first exhibition of the year at Sir Miles Warren Gallery, and the second in our garden-focused series.
The Camellia Society foregrounds Karin Montgomery’s fascination with the long histories of the plants in her garden and their social significance. These exquisite paper reconstructions of imperfect Camellia japonica and Camellia oleifera specimens are propelled by cultural as much as botanical observation.
This special opening will be accompanied by a new work of 'literal sonic sculpture' by Gemma Syme and Nicolas Woollaston. Inspired by the resonant bowed rumbling emanating from the imagination of explorer and instrument creator Constance Demby, the duo have constructed and will perform on their own version of this cosmically charged instrument.
We'll launch from 5pm on Friday 6 March at 65 Cambridge Terrace, Central Christchurch. The exhibition will run until 12 April 2026.
Be the first to see this show and raise a glass with us in the garden thanks to Black Estate, Matter of Time, Almighty and Goodsh*t Soda.
We look forward to having you with us!
