Heiner Zimmermann is a renowned blacksmith from the world famous German workshop, Atelier Zimmerman. The workshop is well known for its use of traditional blacksmithing technologies - some of which are 4000 years old - applied to contemporary design.

These bowls are part of Heiner's practice where he likes to work with one technique at a time. Two bowls utilise the techniques of inlay and mosaic enabling the artist to experiment with the surface of the works. The other bowls explore the plasticity of steel when heated and twisted at 1250 degrees. Paradoxically the heat and physicality of blacksmithing creates these cool and subtle works.
