Spoon Carving Workshop with Courtney Petley

In celebration of the prolific use of timber throughout The Chair, maker Courtney Petley will lead a workshop on spoon carving.

Courtney will teach her technique for carving a spoon using reclaimed native NZ timber. You’ll learn about the properties of wood to help you carve effectively and how to safely use a hook knife and blade to render a spoon. Your spoon will then be finished with sandpaper and oiled with a New Zealand made beeswax before you take it home with you at the end of the session.

All materials and tools are included. A light lunch, and refreshments will be provided. This workshop is not suitable for children.

Tickets are $120. Spaces are limited.

Courtney Petley is a self-taught woodworker living in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. For over 10 years Courtney has worked with reclaimed native timber to create utensils for your kitchen and objects for your home, all carved by hand. Courtney is also passionate about teaching, and sharing the skill of spoon carving and runs other classes from her Cross St workshop.
