"This volume of ATE Journal of Māori Art is about the hononga we have with our tuakana of Te Moananui-a-Kiwa. In Volume One of ATE, we made the decision to invite writers who whakapapa Māori, and for Volume Two we extended the invitation to writers of Te Moananui-a-Kiwa whakapapa. During our June 2019 wānanga, there was spirited discussion from each of our participants about these hononga and, crucially, about the way in which we, as Indigenous peoples of Te Moananui-a-Kiwa, can tautoko and assert our mana motuhake in our writing and the production of writing."
- Bridget Reweti and Matariki Williams
